Okay, I feel kinda like I have to say some nice things about Word Press, since we’re all still in a state of shock about what’s different.
I really like the little previews of blog pages you get when you hover over the link to a person’s blog. Just a quick peek to see what’s there.
Anything you are liking? And did you post today?
I haven’t had a chance to play around with wp too much as of yet. I’m hoping to have some time this weekend to play.
That said, I’m really appreciative of all the footwork you and others have done/are doing. It helps tremendously!
good morning. that preview feature is nice, though it can be a bit overwhelming on a page with lots of links to pics/movies/etc. it can be toggled on and off…somewhere in the dashboard.
my post of the day is a little bit of nothing to test the polling feature, http://mariser.wordpress.com/2010/09/08/is-there-a-poll-here/
the polls are by PollDaddy.com, which I *think* is owned by Automattic, owners of WP. so they play well together.
Nothing today, but I posted a bunch of stuff over the weekend. Lots of pictures and slideshows.
I’ve also been putting up WordPress how-to stuff as I run across it.
Enjoy!

I posted something late last night: it was after 1 a.m. for the folks on the East Coast, so that counts for today, yes?
But it’s just a continuation of what I ate in San Francisco over the weekend. Southern food this time.
I’ve gotten really fond of the Readomattic feature. I open it up and see updates of all the WP blogs I added to the list. The only problem is that not everyone’s updates are showing up. I’m wondering if it’s because their blogs are by invitation only, and I wasn’t invited ;_; or because they’re keeping everything private.
Ah, Readomattic loads for you? I just get a time-out message when I click on it. *sigh*
I’ve been told by a couple of ex-Voxers that WP has a cookies issue: if your WP cookie didn’t load into your browser correctly, you see all sorts of wanky error messages. Try emptying your cache and deleting all of the temporary files in your browser, then see if you still have a problem.
I’d like to see what tips people have to offer about password protected posts. Not the blog (mine is public), but I’ve a couple that are password protected.
It’s not that I don’t want y’all to see it, it’s that I don’t want random people seeing it. But only a couple of people have asked for the password.
Or maybe people just really don’t give a crap about my whining. ๐
I thought a lot of folks had gone with a shared password scheme, where it would all be “voxpeeps.” Was I confuzzled?
I didn’t know that. The ones who gave me their passwords are using random ones.
I’m not one to request someone’s password. I figure if you want me to know it you’ll send it to me. 8:-)
LOL. I don’t know who I gave my password to, so maybe I’ll send it to you twice just in case. I was waiting for people to ask, but that seems silly doesn’t it?
I’m not the most sensible peep in the hood. ๐
And I do give a crap about your whining. I always read it even if I don’t respond.
I’m still trying to reassemble my neighborhood, and figure out what to do about the stragglers who ended up on typepad, or that cloud thing.
Sigh.
Am liking wordpress, partly because it all WORKS.
Sorry, but I hadn’t been able to track comments on vox for ages.
Still figuring out the bells and whistles here on wp.
Need to get added to a couple of people’s blogs who are keeping them private.
Need to do stuff to my homepage to make it less bleak, but it looks as if there’s lots of possibilities.
Am trying to rescue my silly cat widget off my vox page and haven’t figured it out yet.
Ah, password protected posts.
Right now I’m just overwhelmed.
I’m still tidying up my own imported blog, and tracking down stuff that is still coming out of vox.
It’s gonna be a few days before I’m doing more than a quick run through BOTH neighborhoods.
But I’ll need to figure this out eventually.
Maybe we should set up a page at the Yahoo site, or the wp one – a members only vox diaspora page, that is only for necessary passwords?
Would that work?
Yeah, it is nice to be on a blogging site where regular maintenance is being done. But trying to pin down neighborhood stuff has been hard. That’s my only goal here. To list peeps until we all figure out HOW we’re going to blog cruise from here on out.
And yeah, a password file would probably work wonders over at the Yahoo chat group.
i’m with you. (Plus i just had a tooth extracted, so I’m somewhat drugged up and probably will be for a few more days.)
I *do* like the fact that WP works, and what little I’ve become familiar with re. the Dashboard, et. al. seems very nice.
but am not quite ready to jump the Vox ship, I think… (or write something coherent!)
Agreed that creating a ‘hood is kinda frustrating; I think we’re all just trying to get caught up at this point.
There are lots of things I like about WP, but figuring out how to create some kind of neighborhood has been challenging. I’m also struggling with the loss of privacy options. Sigh. But I’m sure it’ll all work out.
Hey RedPen – Loss of privacy options? On the contrary. Head here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
I haven’t had time to get to know my new surroundings, but I really like being able to track the number of hits I’ve had each day. I’m easily entertained. 8:-)
I do like how easy it is to put a video in a post. If you tried to embed it on Vox, part of the thing would get cut off. No searching for the right one either anymore either. ๐
Yup, I posted today.

Are you still giving out invitations to your blog?
Well, I do like how all my VOX’ters are on here, well most. And how Vox Diaspora has set this place up for a sense of community. Thank you for that.
Han anyone else mingled with the “unwashed” (the other wordpress bloggers) or are we going to stick to our own tribe? If so how has your first contact went? hahahaha
I for one have not, but I am going to make attempts to befriend the natives. Wish me luck.
“Han anyone else mingled with the โunwashedโ (the other wordpress bloggers)” Now now, FM, is that any way to speak about your new hosts, hostesses and potential new friends? I for one was quick to expand away from Voxers and into what WP has to offer in platform, material and bloggers. I’ve observed a sense of Voxers clinging, one might say, to one another; however, I’m welcoming the fresh WP faces.
Good to know. So far, I haven’t had such luck. The blogs I liked looks like they were abandoned a year ago. Oh well, I guess I will keep searching and try to make friends with the barbaria….I mean other WP’ers ๐
I actually have my “professional” blog over here, so I may in fact BE one of the “unwashed.” ๐
Or a double agent in “Deep Cover”. ๐
I hope that people will ask for my password. i cannot remember who I have given it to and I have given it to some people more than once. So please, if anyone wants my password, drop a note in my wp inbox (freedomsmith5@gmail.com) and ask me for it!!!
I like wp. I have learned so much in the past week. I have gotten past the point of being totally overwhelmed. That only thing I am struggling with is keep up with everything. There seems to be so many places to check…..my email has 400 emails and that is with as much email notification turned off as is possible, I feel the need to check the “manage comments” area, to check the google reader, to check emails, and at least sometimes, to go to each blog on my blog surfer. Doing all of that takes a lot of time. and even after doing all of that, I may not know that someone responded to a comment. I stopped checking the box underneath about follow up comments because I got so many emails and the comments were not to me. Remember, at Vox, how we could push “reply” next to a persons name? I liked that because it cut down on the email.
I do like the blogroll and my ability to add people from other blogs there, and on google read too.
I am not happy that I have to sign into typepad to leave a message for the people there. I sign into live cloud as well. So, I have a blog at both places that I do not use, but it is there so I can get into the sights to comment.
Thanks for putting this sight together. Hey, I forgot why we got the yahoo passwords?
In response to allycatadventures: I do not know what to do about that issue. I am password protecting pictures and information about my kids and family. I don’t think I would give out my password to someone I did not know before. So, I doubt they would want to read my blog much, although I am trying to do some posts that do not need a passsword. My question is…who are they? How do we know? how do we know they are trustworthy? What if they are someone from Vox that we had a terrible experience with and blocked and they just changed their name and picture? I guess i am pretty spooked about trusting people.
Sorry to be a pain but I accidentally didn’t write Zotta for my
screen name. Could you please list me as “Zotta”? Thanks!
You are very good to do all this. Brava, Z.
